I’m a wine lover. It started in the late 1990s, when I worked briefly in the industry. The wine that hooked me was perhaps modest by some standards, but I found it captivating: a newly released 1999 Petaluma Riesling. I can still remember where and with whom I first tasted it too: a work lunch, Chinese food. There were lots of wines — this one stood out.
It’s safe to say that there have been many wines since then that have fascinated me in one way or another, and in between tasting I’ve also completed a Masters degree in oenology and viticulture. Wine’s great like that; the more you give, the more you get back. Hence the development of Full Pour. Writing about the wines I taste is a way of being more connected with the community of wine lovers across the world, as well as a great way to swap stories with fellow contributor Christopher Pratt, with whom I’ve shared more boozy (and wonderful) dinners than just about anyone else, despite us living at opposite ends of the Earth (he in the USA, me in Australia). So Full Pour is, for me, a very personal extension of my own passion for wine in a way that is, I hope, interesting and relevant to the wider community.
I’d love to hear any feedback you may have about the site, so feel free to email me at julian@fullpour.com.
